Is there anyone out there that doesn’t have any problems or have had any problems in their life? Cant say for sure, but I’m not one of those people. I could tell you how my childhood left a scar and all the struggles I had growing up shaped me into the person I am today, but we will save that for another book. I want to focus on a defining moment that can change your direction on life. Have you had this happen yet? I call it A Fork In The Road.
So lets use our imagination. You are driving down the street that ends. Your only choice is to go left, right, or back –what do you do? You know that whatever direction you choose could possibly change the course of your future. Do you get out a piece of paper and write down the pros and cons of each direction, probably not. Do you flip a coin, probably not, do you phone a friend-maybe. Most people make decisions quickly and based on emotion. The exciting thing about emotion is its ever changing.
My emotions sometimes get the best of me! I’m sure I cant be the only one that would be an anomaly. Here we are back in the car deciding which direction is next. Then were off to the races based on the emotion that has inspired us. So now we have been on this journey for awhile, your awhile could be very long, or quite short. But what if, what if we took more than a bleak second to decide, which way to go?
Yes there are options. Lets sit in the car a little longer, close our eyes and imagine what each direction could potentially look like. Really open your mind and be adventurous the sky is not the limit it’s the beginning. So, the next time you see yourself stopped by a fork in the road take a deep breathe, close your eyes and know there is more than one way to go, and if you don’t like your choice you get a do over!!
THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
Most people have good intentions. Our day-to-day lives are filled with what’s next. Sometimes this could happen one time during the day, to multiple times depending on how we are feeling. When life is good and going the way we want it there seems to not be a care in the world. But what happens during times when there’s always something!
These days are normally not the good ones. We are upset about work, friends, family, spouses, significant others, kids if you have them, and possibly the dog. It seems during these dark days that nothing can go right. That’s when we start thinking, bad things happen in three’s, why me, or nothing ever goes right. Come on now tell me I’m not the only one.
For me there was a time that it seemed those were my words all the time. I had my own pity party daily. I have to say there is something quite soothing about status que. I felt like a cartoon character walking around in a cloud of rain hanging over my head. Now you can imagine it, right. Yup there is always something.
Good news! The old cliché that there is a light at the end of the tunnel is true. But its up to you and takes some effort and a no give up attitude! First, its not going to be easy, but worth it. This is where I had to put my big girl boots on. I started one day at a time.
For me it started with just taking a deep breath and sitting in my car by myself imagining what I was doing next. You know what I mean, sort of like strategizing a plan for my day. Than I started organizing my day in one-hour increments, if that is too long for you, try 30-minute increments. The point is to just start somewhere. Finally, and most important is never, never forget you are worth it!
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, NOT!
I used to always say The struggle is real. Now looking back all I can do is laugh, because I thought it was comical to say it. My friends would even hash tag it. We pretty much considered it a joke. Oh boy what I didn’t realize is I was making everything a struggle. Can you imagine how much negative energy I was putting out into my surroundings?
When times are tough we have to find a way to deal. Why is it at the expense of ourselves? I mean is life really a struggle, or are we moving so fast in so many directions that we don’t stop and smell the roses, ha ha. What happens to you in the mist of a struggle? I can tell you I turn into super B! And I don’t mean nice lady.
So I have to say after saying the struggle is real for so many years, it was hard to change. Its like a movie that you’ve seen many, many times. You know how it ends, but sometimes it will come up again on the TV, and because nothing else is on you watch it again. There is something to be said about changing the channel.
We all have lots of channels to choose from everyday in our lives. That’s how I did it I changed my channel. I decide if the struggle is real or not. You decide if your struggle is stronger than you are, I don’t believe it. Now when I want to say the four negative words, I have spruced it up. The struggle is real, NOT!
Don’t get me wrong, I still have slip ups. I don’t always stop, drop, and roll with the punches. And some days I don’t even recognize myself, or how this tornado is growing. When I do realize the destruction of my tornado and the damage it causes me and the people around me I run to my quite space. Your tornado will dissipate and you will see your beautiful sky if you don’t give up.
ARE WE THERE YET?
Are we there yet, Are we there yet, Are we there yet? This happens a lot during road trips. During the anticipation of the trip we are so excited and giddy, maybe we cant sleep. You plan for all the adventures you will do while on the road trip and at your destination. The day is finally here you say!
What we forget is the time it takes to actually get to your destination. That’s when it sets in, that crazy saying, “are we there yet.”
If you want to be great, take a page from the playbook of the great ones! Imagine my surprise when I learned that Marc Benioff, The CEO of Salesforce.com, Ariana Huffington, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Huffington Post, and Jeff Weiner, the CEO of LinkedIn all have a regular meditation practice. Not only are they out of the closet about their meditation practice, but they willingly share the benefits of consistent meditation and give credit to meditation as a key ingredient to the success of their businesses publicly. Google has even incorporated meditation spaces within their campuses for their employees to meditate during the workday to help nurture creativity. All of these cutting-edge leaders seem to know this secret, so I say, "If meditation is good enough for these billionaires, I'm hopping on board!"
I began meditating several months ago and found that the benefits far surpassed my expectations. Today, I find myself more centered with an increased ability to focus, more creative in my problem solving skills as well as better able to handle stressful situations in a calm and controlled fashion. All of these qualities were inside me all along, they were just buried under hectic schedules and mile-long to-do lists. There is a confident, grounded person with vision and clarity emerging from deep inside all of us and every day I become more excited to watch my true leader come shinning through. Both my State Farm Insurance business as well as my Travel business are both flourishing as a result of this new practice I've put in place, and the greatest thing is that the expansion all seems to be happening so seamlessly. I've been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember but now I'm an entrepreneur on fire - having more fun and finding more freedom than I imagined was possible. I used to think that clearing my schedule would bring me peace and abundance; now I know it's clearing my mind. #BefierceHavefunFindfreedom
